A native of Lansing, Michigan, John grew up with a love of computers and technology. His work as a software engineer spans from small startups like Recourse Technologies to major firms like Apple, where he worked on the first version of the iPhone. John is completely fluent in Japanese and after his time in Silicon Valley, moved to Japan to train Japanese churches in social media and technology as a Christian missionary. He then focused his analytical skillset on public service, currently working as Senior Advisor at U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The first in his family to attend college, John holds a B.S. in Computer Science from Stanford University, and a Master in Public Administration from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
